Dumbo Double Dare

is only 2 months away!  I am so excited about the Dumbo Double Dare.  Dumbo being my favorite character and all that good stuff.  Last year for my very special birthday my mom and dad had a custom skirt made for me so that I could have something other than my Tink costume for runDisney races.  Well, when they announced the Dumbo Double Dare I knew my skirt would have to wait a little longer to make its debut.

It is a "twirl" skirt, think 1950's poodle skirt style with Dumbo's!  Only the most amazing skirt ever.  And if you think that's crazy here is my room from when I was in college... Dumbo everywhere.  I cannot wait to work on my Dumbo shirt to wear for the races and to see what great Dumbo merchandise the event will have.  Hotel is booked, still waiting for some "cheap" airfare, if there ever is such a thing.

Hot Weather Running

This week and a good chunk of late last week has been hazy, hot and humid (well, compared to our "usual" weather).  My body does not handle the heat very well, it takes a lot out of me and a long time to recover, even from an easy run.  Hubby and I were also out of town for a few days since his grandfather was having surgery.  So here is what I was supposed to do compared to what I actually did/plan to do:

Week 8
easy 6     easy 6.25
6x800 with 400 recovery and I actually did 4x800 and nailed my times
off          easy 6 (knew was going out of town)
5 tempo  5 with 3x1mile tempo and 1 min jog between
easy 5     off
easy 6     off
long 10   5 easy (was over 80* and humid), carried water

Week 9
easy 5     5 easy, carried water bottle
5x1k       5 miles with fartleck step count workout totaling 3 miles, carried water (allowed me to have shade instead of being on the track with the sun beating on me) almost 80* and 80% humidity at 9am
off          off (will be doing some yard work outside though so the heat will take it's toll)
easy 6    6 easy
easy 5    5 easy before Hubby takes me on surprise trip
long 15   may split this into two runs at destination and return home of 4 and then 5

I've been running a little slower and taking walk breaks but that is what works for me with the heat and humidity.  Sometimes it is better very early in the am and other times it actually cools off nice enough in the early evening (kind of depends on thunder storms and such).

Training...week 6

So week 6 of my half marathon training following the marathon training program went pretty good.  I did all of my easy runs for the week and did half of the track workout (6x400 instead of 12x400) and felt really great.  I hit my target time with some effort but nothing over the top.  I cut my Saturday and Sunday runs in half since I am in Colorado visiting my sister and don't want to "overdo it" with the altitude difference and give my body some time.  So far not bad and making sure I run slower than I should.  I did miss my 5 mile tempo that was scheduled for Thursday due to extreme downpours, but I did elliptical at a very hard effort for the time it would have taken me for the tempo plus some extra easy warm up and cool down minutes.
I am going to try to follow week 7 while I am here and adjust my hard workout paces according to perceived effort instead of time.
