The ladies started 8 minutes after the guys and you can see me just above the halfway part of the photo with the orange shoes. A few of the other MRTT ladies are at the race too--including one who had never done a trail race before.
We did the same course as before but in reverse except a small part at the beginning and end of the course. Running down the creek, hurdling logs and trampling through giant mud puddles and ankle deep, suck your shoes off mud. In other words, fun. Here is the finish:
The finish was straight up a very steep hill with the finish just as you got to the top--maybe 15 feet past the top of the hill. Meanwhile, the race director is standing at the top with a microphone saying things like, "no one is watching you. not. a. single. person." I kind of laughed and smiled. Seriously it was a bunch of slippery mud and you kind of had to go on the edges if possible to get some traction with the grass. I was just happy I didn't end up on my butt or face.
After I was done I went over with my mom (who is awesome for feeding me McDonalds before the race and cheering on me and the other MRTT ladies). FYI I did not get sick or anything at all from eating that before running---and I ate it within about 40 minutes of the start. Lucky I don't have many issues with food before running.
When all the gals had finished we busted out some adult beverages and each had one to hang out and relax. The MRTT in her first race tripped and fell to which everyone said, "You are officially a trail runner now. Everyone falls sometime."
I sported one of my loves, a SparkleSkirt called Wild Animal (I believe). I got a few compliments on my skirt and it paired really nice with my Spirit of the Marathon t-shirt that has been in my closet waiting for the right outfit. Now it is time to start hitting the roads and track as I get my butt in gear for a few fall half marathons before my major build in miles for Goofy #10.
